Newsletter Week 37

Dear all....what a great week. I think it is much easier coming to school with the glorious weather we have had this week. This week was a little unusual with my youngest son Oliver being sick on Wednesday and my wife being at University for the day meant I had to be at home. With three children and the massive variety of things that go around at daycare and school means that I am away from school sometimes and more often than I would like. It's also important that the class take advantage of the time that they have in class. I think sometimes it is easy to become a little relaxed and think of it as a day off, but actually it is a good opportunity to catch up on work and practice some things that need to be practiced.

Class photo
This Tuesday 15th at 8:30 is the class photo. I ask everyone to try and look their best. I will also ask that there are no shirts with big transfers on the front, eg; Batman, Manchester United, minions... Nice smart clothing that lets your child's beauty shine through!

Book covering
Most children have cut and pasted from various magazine pictures and other found collage items to their books. Over the past 2 weeks we have tried to cover them. There are photo instructions on the blog and I have set the deadline for all books to be covered as Monday.

PE orienteering
We have been starting to learn about orienteering in PE. To some it is a new and challenging topic. These children have been working in pairs. I ask that the children try to bring something that they can use to tell the time to the lessons. A phone or watch is probably the easiest option. This makes any chance of children losing track of the time less likely. Those who have experience will be orienteering alone, so a time keeper will be useful.

School absences
Please report to the school office asap if your child will be home from school. Also, if you could send me a quick mail, it will mean I have that info asap also.

Maths
This week we have covered Exponents, and Comparing and Ordering numbers. Remember homework will usually be from the blue homework book which needs to be brought to the lesson to get full credit.

English project
We have started on our Personal Project. There are 10 items to complete and this should take us the best part of the next two weeks at least.

Science
We have started our topic of Classification and we have learn about Taxonomy and Heirarchy and how the living world is divided into 6 Kingdoms.
Homework is to watch the film and answer the questions.

Social Studies
We are Mapping! This week we have used the Oxfam website as a source of information. For each lesson the children had to choose the Plenary questions from two out of the three A,B or C lessons. Those 20 questions are due in on Tuesday. The plenary questions are on the website and also on the blog in an album.

Have a super weekend!
Paul
